Saturday, May 30th marked the 1st annual Reel Kids Films, Inc. Gala. The intent is to raise funding for their films. The first one titled "Times Like These Again", which is a wonderfully honest and moving screenplay written by the kids. I had the honor of reading the final draft first, being on their Advisory Board.
Although the formal event was a great jumping off point and appeared to be successful, none of the celebrities who were invited, showed up. I think this may have been somewhat of a let down to the Reel Kids director and founder, the incomparable, Mr. Buck Sierra. Having put in so much time, energy and money to make this dream a reality is very encouraging to say the least. But it is disconcerting that local artists/celebrities, were not there to lend their support to such a formidable event and company.
However, it was a top-notch affair at the beautiful Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills. Everyone seemed to have a great time. The food and beverages were fantastic, and the company was stellar.
The office of the Honorable and wonderful San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom was there and Patti Carlise, Film & Music Liaison, presented honors to Buck Sierra as well as the Reel Kids. It was very touching that, as the message that resounded loud and clear from Buck himself, "It is about being validated", came true, through the mayor's office. Thank you Mayor Newsom And Patti Carlise!
I look forward to the 2nd Annual Gala next year.
